1.raise 及物动词 rise 不及物动词
The landlord raised my rent
The population of the city has risen to five million
2.She wondered （what was the matter with Mum ）括号内为宾语从句 I don't know what is the matter with him.
I have no idea what was the matter with him.
关于matter的从句都是疑问语序
3.beside 在旁边
besides 除此以外,包括“此”
except 除此以外,不包括“此”
4.join 连结;使结合[(+to/together/up)]
join和...一起做同样的事;和...作伴[(+in/for)]
enter for报名参加
Our team has entered for the competition
take place in 参加 相当于join in
